We
can also help you register your U.S. Domain Name, which becomes your unique Web
address. Having your own Domain Name suggests you have your own Web space, and
since email can be addressed to your domain (e.g. www.yourname.com), you will
not have to announce a new email address if you change Internet
providers. ns1.responsiveweb.com 216.128.67.40 ns2.responsiveweb.com 216.128.67.39 Your changes should activate within 24-48 hours. Propagation normally requires 24-48 hours. During this period, if you are
transferring your domain, some nameservers will refer to the old location of
your site and some to the new location. Therefore, a visitor accessing your site
may be directed to either the old or new location. That's why it is best to
cancel your old provider only after the internet has propagated and all requests
to view your site are going to our servers. FTP
is also referred to as a software program, as you will need to obtain an FTP
client and install it on your desktop to upload and download files to your ResponsiveWeb
hosted Web site account. Click here
to download a free version of WS_FTP! If
you receive a 550 Access denied error message when logged in and attempting to
upload files, please contact us
and we will be glad
to assist you! If
you use FrontPage access, then you will need to wait to upload your Website
until Network Solutions (or the registrar that has registered your domain name)
has finished registering or transferring your domain name. Only then can you
upload and see your Website at its new host, ResponsiveWeb. 1) Mis-spelled file name or directory - check the URL that is entered to make sure
that the file or directory name is spelled correctly. http://www.yoursite.com/folder1/page.htm But
the file you are looking for called "page.htm" is actually in a folder called
"folder2". Since your browser is looking in "folder1", you cannot see the file.
This can be corrected by moving "page.htm" to "folder1", or by recoding your
HTML so as to direct browsers to the proper folder, "folder2." a)
an unsuccessful publish or b)
a proxy server at your ISP or office is using a cached copy of your Website.
It
is always good idea to refresh or clear the cache on your browser when making
changes to your Website, however you could also be viewing an old, or cached,
copy of your Website via your connection either through your dial-up ISP or
proxy server at work. Sometimes dial-up ISPs cache (store copies of), Websites
on their proxy server so that an Internet connection does not need to be
established each time a site is requested. This practice saves ISPs bandwidth,
as Internet connection lines need not be used every time someone browses to
Yahoo! - the site is simply stored locally on the proxy server. The same
practice is often employed on a smaller scale at places of business. Caches
should be cleared daily, however if your problem persists, please contact your
dial-up ISP or your network administrator and ask them to manually clear the
cache for your site. Once this is done you will see the newly published Website
on our servers.
